Simple Bands Wedding Ring Quilt

Wedding Ring Quilt

Simplest Wedding Ring Quilt you have ever done.  Choose few colors, or many colors and make this quilt just in time for that upcoming wedding you may be attending.  The curves are easy, and 3 pins will be all you need to sew these.  A ruler and template plastic will help you square the block up and make assembly so easy.

Book and Pattern Required:  Simple Bands by Phillips Fiber Art

Ruler:  Simple Curves

Ruler:  10 ½” square ruler

Clear Template Plastic

Black Magic Permanent Marker

Fabric Requirements:  Read this carefully.  This is for a double size quilt.

If you want 5 fabrics in the ring, bring ¾ yard of each of five colors

7/8 yard of each of two colors for corners

4.5 yard one color background

¾ yard binding

2 – 2 ½ yard border fabric (optional)

¾ yard inner border fabric

If you want solid rings, then follow the directions on the back of the pattern for yardage.  The pattern uses two different background fabrics also, you can use only one if you would like.

If you are following the pattern for fabric requirements, then cut your fabric according to the directions on page one of the pattern, according to the size you wish to make.  Cut only the first two lines of A, the first two lines of B, cut C, Cut D, Cut E only 5 ½ steps, and cut F only 5 ½ steps.

Cutting mat and rotary cutter Ruler at least 6.5 x 12.5? Basic sewing supplies, (scissors, seam ripper, marking pencil, extra sewing machine needles, pins, etc) Sewing Machine, sewing machine cords. You must know how your machine works prior to class. A ?? foot is recommended. Bobbins wound and ready to sew Homework for Five Colored Strip Set: Lay out your fabric in your desired color run. I would recommend putting the darkest at one end and the lightest at the other end. Cut the strips to the following sizes starting from the darkest on the left. Darkest 2 ??, next to the darkest 2 ??, middle strip 2 ??, next to the lightest 2 ??, and the light strip 2 ??. Cut 8 strips of each color. If you want and are sure you sew accurate ?? seams, you can sew up these strip sets at home. Make sure your stitch length is set to 2.4 or even 2.0. They must measure 10 ?? when sewn together and pressed. Press all seams toward the dark. Using spray starch to hold these nicely together when cutting. Bring this to class. Each strip 40? long will yield 14 curves or 7 blocks. If you are making a bigger quilt this should give you an idea of how many strip sets you will need to sew. Background Squares: (48) 9 ?? x 9 ?? squares (if you are using two different colors cut 24 of each color) Accent Corners: (24) 5 ?? x 5 ?? squares of each color ? total of 48 squares Homework for Solid Rings: Cut strips (7 of each color) 10 ? ? wide Background Squares: (48) 9 ? ?x 9 ?? (if you are using two different colors cut 24 of each color) Accent Corners: (24) 5 ?? x 5 ?? squares of each color ? total of 48 squares
